Bishop, Andover roll to title

ROXBURY — Andover, which went unbeaten in the regular season, continued its domination at the Merrimack Valley Conference meet at Reggie Lewis Track.

The Golden Warriors rolled up 104 points, easily outpacing second-place Tewksbury (69), third-place Central Catholic (67) and fourth-place Haverhill (66).

Jowett sets school mark

Sophomore Lanie Jowett ran a league best and school record 2:52.1 in the 1,000 and her sister Megan took the 2-mile as Central (4-1-1) wrapped up the regular season with a 50-36 win over Lowell. The old 1,000 mark was a 2:25.27 by Jackie Chase in 2003. Another highlight for the Raiders was sophomore Ali Sanz notching her first career win and she took top honors in the high jump.

LaFrance ties school record

Katie LaFrance tied the school record in the 50 hurdles with a 7.3 as she helped Central Catholic girls beat Haverhill 55-31.

Silver lining

Central Catholic used three second-place finishes to tie for second at the Division 2 state relays. Lanie Jowett, Megan Jowett, Alexa Poulin and Nicolette Pelrine combined to set a new school record of 12.:58.93 in the distance medley.

Viva Lafrance

Katie Lafrance ran a career best 7.4 to win the hurdles and second-generation Central Catholic sprinter Mikayla Hickey won the dash in 6.6 as the Raiders topped Billerica 55-30. Nicolette Pelrine used a late kick to win the 1,000.

Central Catholic 43, Tewksbury 43

Tewksbury's win in the final event, the relay, created a rare indoor track tie against Central Catholic, 43-43, to start both team's season.  Kristen Wilson won the high jump (4-10) and placed second in the dash for the Raiders while Megan Jowett (2-mile), Nicolette Pelrine (mile) and Lauren Hoole (shot put) qualified for states with their efforts.
