The Raider boys and girls hoop teams each hauled the championship hardware back up I-93 last night, sweeping the Comcast Officials Board 27 Basketball Tournament titles for the second straight year.

Gabie Polce and Courtney Williams each scored 11 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for Central Catholic duirng a 56-38 win over Durfee, in the opening round of the Comcast Tourney. Melissa Miller and Katie Zenevitch each scored 10 to advance the Raiders to today's championship game vs. Westford (2:30 p.m.).

Courtney Williams had a strong game offensively with eight points but it was her defense, including six steals, which sparked Central Catholic to a 58-40 romp over Lowell.

LAWRENCE — Playing without the area’s player of the decade certainly isn’t something Central Catholic coach Sue Downer wants to do very often. But it’s also a comfort to know that her defending state champion Raiders can hold their own without Katie Zenevitch.

A couple of Central Catholic athletes came off the bench and did a fine job subduing Dracut in a convincing 75-45 triumph. Juniors Juliana Piemonte (6 points and 2 steals) and Courtney Williams (8 points) provided impressive  defense for the Raiders (11-1).
