With Desrosiers sick, Raiders claw way to Comcast title

BOSTON - The sign on the fieldhouse wall might say Boston College High School, but Central Catholic makes it self quite at home here.

The Raider boys and girls hoop teams each hauled the championship hardware back up I-93 last night, sweeping the Comcast Officials Board 27 Basketball Tournament titles for the second straight year.

Desrosiers leads Central Catholic

Carson Desrosiers poured in a game-high 32 points to lead Central Catholic to an 80-65 win over BC High, in the opening round of the Comcast Tourney, at BC High. Jimmy Zenevitch and Michael Alvarez each had 10 points to help the Raiders improve to 18-1. Cedntral Catholic will play in the championship game of the Comcast tourney, today at 6:30 p.m.

LAWRENCE - He's 6-foot-7, 225 pounds of scoring punch, and somehow, over an eight-minute stretch Andover High just couldn't find him.

Central Catholic junior Jimmy Zenevitch owned the third quarter with 18 of his game-high 24 points on 8 of 10 shots, turning a fist fight into a rout, 61-47, before a raucous, standing-room crowd of about 1,500.

Raiders spoil 'Costello' celebration

Before the start of the game, former HHS athlete, Charlie Roche, class of 2009 was honored in memory of Bobby Costello, a 1969 HHS basketball captain. Also being honored were HHS graduates, class of 2006, FROM LEFT, Steve Wholley, Even Kelleher and Mike Fantini all seniors at St. Anselms College who each received $6,000 towards college. As usual, a solid crowd turned out at the Mansfield Gym to celebrate "Bobby Costello Night," and while the home team fought hard, unbeaten Central Catholic was just too much, topping host Haverhill, 65-52. Carson Desrosiers dominated with a dozen points, 12 boards and eight blocks. Jimmy Zenevitch had 15 points, which played without Michael Alvarez and Evan Sheehan, each of whom was nursing an ankle sprain. Haverhill's Dennis Driftmeyer led all scorers with 16 points.
