The Central Catholic boys basketball team saw its perfect season melt in the waning seconds yesterday, falling at defending Rhode Island state champ, Bishop Hendricken, 61-60.
Up four with 18 seconds to play, the Raiders gave up a hoop, a turnover and a three-pointer with 2.7 seconds left to drop their first one in 17 tries.
"Hopefully it refocuses our group," said Central coach Rick Nault, whose team played without Jimmy Zenevitch (ankle) for the second straight game. "The kids saw that we're not invincible. We played a good defensive game until the last four minutes and it cost us."
Carson Desrosiers paced Central with a season-high 28 points, pulling down 13 rebounds and swatting six shots. Michael Alvarez added 14 points.
Zenevitch remains a question mark, according to Nault.
"We probably won't have him Tuesday (against Haverhill)," said Nault. "The goal is to have him for the Comcast Tournament (Saturday and Sunday at BC High)."
