The Great Grazio

Jared Grazio, who usually plays striker off the bench, was pressed into duty in goal and came up big. The Haverhill junior stopped nine shots to blank Central Catholic, 1-0. Grazio was playing because Mike Ferragamo was out with the flu.

Ferragamo denies Warriors

Matt Pickles' second-half goal rewarded Mike Ferragamo's outstanding goaltending and earned Haverhill its sixth straight win, 2-1 over Andover. Ferragamo (12 saves) was challenged with several breakaways in the first half and turned them all aside to keep the Hillies (7-3-1) in the hunt. Outstanding possessional play from midfielders Randy Sartor, Kaelan Crawford, and Peter Kostakis kept the Golden Warriors (6-5-1) competitive.

Late in the second half Jared Lewis broke a scoreless stalemate to power Haverhill past Lawrence, 1-0. Mike Ferragamo made five saves for the shutout and Edgar Escalante and Jose Ossers held Haverhill's offense in check.

McCarron strong on defense

Despite the best efforts of junior David McCarron, Pentucket dropped a 3-1 verdict to Haverhill.

Installed at fullback for the first time ever, McCarron "played the whole game because he played fantastic," said coach Christian Langlois. "Haverhill may have scored three goals, but none of them came on David's side of the field."

Huge saves from Connor Slein at the end of the first and second halves made Dan Caruso's goal stand up in Central Catholic's 1-0 victory over Haverhill. Slein had six saves to prevail over Hillie netminder Mike Ferragamo (three saves) in the defensive battle.
