Hornets history

North Reading field hockey, which had only scored three goals all season, scored three yesterday in a 3-1 win over Hamilton-Wenham. It was the Hornets' second win, setting a new record for the 7-year-old varsity program. Kaycee Janinno, Melissa Psallidas and Jen Bash scored.

Knights win Breen battle

"It was the Battle of the Breens,'' said North Andover field hockey coach Courtney Breen after her club beat North Reading, 4-0. The Hornets are coached by her sister Linsday. "We'd never coached against each other. I coached St. A's and she played at Stonehill. She won every time. I think three times. It wasn't really revenge. She's done an amazing job with the program.''

North Reading finally wins

North Reading field hockey did not score a goal in its first seven games. But the Hornets found the back of the net twice against Triton to win 2-1 and improve to 1-4-3. It was the Hornets' first win since Sept. 27, 2007, snapping a 0-26-9 streak.

Rockport 1, North Reading 0

Rockport scored in the first three minutes of the game and held on to top North Reading, 1-0. Center midfielder Kaitlyn Battaglia played a very strong game on both ends of field for the Hornets (0-1-2). Kyra Zani turned aside seven shots in the setback.
