Hornets Beat Bulldogs, Royals Will Get Chance At Revenge

The division III sixth-seeded Hornets moved on to the Semifinals after beating third-seeded North Shore Tech Bulldogs 3-1 yesterday.  The Hornets (16-6) will face the tenth-seeded Georgetown Royals (16-7)  June 3 at 7 p.m. at Fraser Field-Lynn.

Royal rally again

For the second time in two days, Georgetown's baseball team — fueld by Andrew Sinkewicz — rallied in the seventh inning for a big victory, this time 6-5 over North Reading to take a half-game lead in the Cape Ann League small division. Sinkewicz had a three-run walkoff homer in the bottom of the seventh — his second homer in two days and sixth of the year — to provide the winning margin. Freshman Ryan Browner was sensational in relief, with 1 2/3 hitless innings to pick up the win.

650 for Carey

Ranked second all time on the Massachusetts all-time win list, North Reading coach Frank Carey reached another milestone as he recorded his 650th career win. Hornet junior Matt Calos had three hits and broke the game open with a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning as North Reading beat Amesbury 5-1.

Rosano comes through

North Reading baseball's Bobby Rosano punched a base hit passed the shortstop to drive in the winning run in a 2-1 victory over Lynnfield in extra innings. A two-out single and subsequent steal by senior captain Darren Hartwell set up the game winning hit. The win was highlighted by a brilliant performance by Hornet pitcher Eric Diffily, who went eight innings and held Lynnfield to three hits.

Kevin Singer and North Reading continued its hot start yesterday with a 6-0 shutout of Hamilton-Wenham. Singer threw a four-hitter, striking out four, for his second win and helped his own cause with two hits and two runs scored. The Hornets (3-0) also played errorless ball for their third straight game.
