Sheridan saves the day

Down one with 51 seconds to go, Chris Sheridan hit a fall-away trey to take a lead Whittier would never relinquish as it went on to top Greater Lowell, 67-62. Sheridan nailed a pair of free throws on the following possession to finish the night with 11 points and seal the victory. At 6-4, Paulo Tavares dominated the smaller Gryphons squad, ripping down 23 boards in addition to recording 16 points. Tito Pizarro (12 points), Damian Colman (10) and Giovanni Gomez (10) joined the duo in double digits.

Huge fourth for the frosh

With Tito Pizarro (14 points, seven assists, five steals) in foul trouble late in the game, freshman Marck Galva replaced him and went on to have an excellent fourth quarter in Whittier's 70-63 win over North Shore. Galva had eight points, eight boards and four blocks, all in the final frame. Paulo Tavares was his usual reliable self with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Reggies run over Whittier

Senior Erick Polanco had four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points as Greater Lawrence handily defeated Whittier, 78-48. Donald Celestin netted two 3-pointers and 21 points for the Reggies. Kyle Zajac led Whittier with 12 points.

Rebounding Clinic

Paulo Tavares drained 21 points in Whittier's 56-50 victory over Assabet Valley, but that wasn't the most impressive stat of his night. The senior co-captain also ripped down a stellar 24 rebounds according to coach John Campbell. Chris Sheridan knocked down three 3-pointers en route to an 18-point night to help keep the Wildcats' (6-9) postseason hopes alive.

Damian dynamite

Damian Colman scored eight of his team-high 24 points in the third quarter as Whittier Tech took charge and held off Northeast in boys hoop action, 60-53.
Colman, who dished out seven assists, nailed 6 of 7 from the foul line down the stretch to ice the victory. Tito Pizarro chipped in 11 points with six assists and five steals.

Whittier boys basketball earned what's believed to be it's first Commonwealth Conference Large victory in three seasons, a 68-59 win over Greater Lowell. Tito Pizarro scored a career high 20 points for the Wildcats.

21 for Celestin

Greater Lawrence cruised past Whittier, 76-46, thanks in large part to a huge 26-point third quarter. The Reggies held a 30-20 advantage through the first half and went on to outscore the Wildcats 46-26 in the second half. Whittier's Paulo Tavares racked up a team-high 17 points. Greater Lawrence had four players in double digits, led by Donald Celestin's 21. Kelvin Correa was close behind with 19, and Leandro Valdez rounded out the Wildcats' top three with 12 points.
