Alison Newell scored on an offensive rebound with 1.6 seconds left to lift Lynnfield over North Reading, 43-42. It was doubly important for the Pioneers as it was their 10th win and secured a state tourney berth in their fiinal game of the season. Kirsten Morrison starred in defeat with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

"We played great defense," said North Reading head coach Karla Sullivan after her team held Rockport to just 12 points in a 44-point blowout, 56-12.

Alison Friberg led the Hornets with 14 points Casey Denofrio added eight.

Maxine Crossman had seven points and seven rebounds for Triton (3-6). Rachelle Bourque added six points.

Viselli drops 20

Junior Ashley Viselli racked up a game-high 20 points as Pentucket more than doubled-up North Reading, 56-27. Viselli hit four of the Sachems' five 3-pointers. Erin McNamara (12 points) and Vanessa Cahill (10 points) also finished in double digits. Nicole Cecchini led North Reading in scoring with six points.

A true team effort

The North Reading girls basketball team topped Shawsheen Valley, 44-25, in spite of only being able to muster three points in the opening quarter. It was a true team effort as no Hornets player reached double digits in points. Kristen Giddings, Kirsten Morrison and Tori Pearce each recorded eight points, and Morrison chipped in a team-high 10 rebounds.
