Hillies season ends

After making a gallant run to their first state tournament in six years, Haverhill High fell to No. 2 Gloucester, 8-1, on the road in the round of 32.
Jake Costa got the Hillies, who finish at 10-11, on the board with a first-quarter goal from Jack Baker. After that, it was all Fishermen.
"We never gave up and battled to the very end and for that I’m very proud of this team," said coach Joe Roberts "It's a great group of boys and it was an honor to coach them."

Bishop nets two

John Bishop scored two of Haverhill's four second period goals, but the Hillies fell to Hamilton-Wenham in overtime in the championship game of the Newburyport Bank Tournament.

Hillies are in!

Haverhill hockey beat Pentucket, 3-1, in the Newburyport Bank Tourney. That punched the 10-9-1 Hillies' ticket into the state tourney. Coach Joe Roberts said it is their first tourney berth in six years. Goal scorers were Justin Torosian, John Bishop and Jake Costa. Dylan Soucy turned aside 22 shots. The Hillies will play Hamilton-Wenham for the title Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Haverhill High's hockey team, once 2-7, has climbed all the way back to the .500 mark at 9-9 thanks to Thursday night's 4-3 win over Shawsheen Tech. Darren Ackerman scored a pair of goal, and Cal Pruett came up with 44 saves to secure the victory.

Fitzgerald, Haverhill stay hot

Brendan Fitzgerald scored two goals and John Bishop tallied one goal and two assists as Haverhill topped Amesbury 5-1 for its sixth win in seven games. Goalie Dylan Soucy continued to star, making 38 saves for the winners.
