The North Andover girls cross country team made a statement Saturday, finishing first at the Battle of the Border at Alvirne, defeating a strong Coe-Brown team by 16 points and Marshfield, which defeated the Knights last week at the Frank Kelley Invitational.

In her last home meet of her career, Pinkerton senior Meghan Cross finished first in 19:44 for 3.1 miles to pace the Astros to an tri-meet win over Salem and Dover. Silvia Caddell finished second for Salem.

It was not a particularly strong day for the local girls varsity teams at the Manchester Invitational Saturday, but the youngsters ran well.
In the 3K freshman race, Pinkerton finished third overall led by Faith Mamos in fifth (14:55) and Grace Jellow in seventh (15:03). Emily Smith of Londonderry came in 11th.
