HAVERHILL — A North Andover school year that began last September with great optimism couldn’t have ended more superbly.

HAVERHILL - The eighth and final selection to the Super 8 baseball tournament is sitting as pretty as possible following the opening two rounds.

A pair of eighth-inning runs and an outstanding eight innings of Brendan Holland relief kept North Andover perfect in the tourney with a 7-5 victory Saturday afternoon over fifth-seeded BC High at Trinity Stadium. The Knights (18-4) will play the other remaining unbeaten team, third-seeded Walpole (18-4), in the winner's bracket semifinal. A date and time for that game has yet to be announced.

Trailing by two runs at the time, Andover struck for six runs in the top of the fifth to break open the game in its eventual 7-4 win over rival North Andover. Patrick McConnell (2 for 4, 2 RBIs) and Henry Grebe each had big hits in the inning, as the Warriors end their regular season 11-9.

Jack Morin broke the deadlock with an RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning to give North Andover a 2-1 victory over Tewksbury in the Spinners Cup.

Jake McElroy and Eric Whitehead both hit home runs as North Andover baseball trounced Lawrence, 10-1. Sebastian Keane tossed six innings, allowed three hits and struck out 13 for the win.

Jake McElroy launched two home runs, also had a triple and finished 4 for 5 at the plate with four RBIs to power North Andover over Haverhill, 11-1. Freshman Ryan Griffin picked up his first win on the mound for the Knights (10-1), who qualified for the state tournament.

Brett Dunham picked up the win and was 3 for 4 with four RBIs as North Andover's baseball team stayed unbeaten (10-0) and became the first local team to qualify for the state tournament.

Jake McElroy and Jack Morin were both clutch, driving in four runs each to lift North Andover to a 9-4 win over Billerica. McElroy was 3 for 3 with three runs, and Sebastian Keane tossed five innings with one run allowed and 11 strikeouts.

Brett Dunham went the distance in his first varsity start, striking out five to lead North Andover to a 3-2 win over Tewksbury. Jake McElroy led the offense going 2 for 3 with a run.

Sophomore Brendan Holland took the varsity mound for the first time on Friday and pitched six shutout innings with only three hits allowed, as North Andover blanked Arlington 6-0. Jake McElroy had a pair of hits in the win.
