What was a two-point game at the half turned south quickly for the Whittier boys basketball team in Saturday's Division 3 North quarterfnials.

No. 4 Bedford outscored the No. 5 Wildcats 44-22 in the second half, and cruised to a 79-55 victory Saturday afternoon.

HAVERHILL — Whittier senior Demario Scarpegnato couldn't keep up his torrid scoring pace Tuesday night, but he continued to elevate the Wildcats.

After averaging 27 points in his previous three games, Scapegnato was held to 17 but his 15 rebounds and all-around intensity helped Whittier surge past Weston, 57-47, in the opening round of the Division 3 North tournament.

Senior Demario Scarpegnato pumped in 30 points to lead Whittier to a 70-50 win over Lowell Catholic. Kevin Bradley knocked down four 3's and finished with 17 points for the Wildcats.

Demario Scarpegnato scored 19 of his game-high 27 points in the first half and Anthony Buckley backed him with 23 points and five 3-pointers. They led Whittier over Ipswich 68-57.

Whittier senior Anthony Buckley reached 1,000 points for his career in the Wildcats' 82-67 win over Northeast on Tuesday. He knocked down a deep 3-pointer to reach the mark. The referees then paused the game to allow Whittier to celebrate Buckley's achievement. He finished the game with 15 points. 

Anthony Buckley had 15 of his game-high 32 points in the fourth quarter as Whittier Tech rallied for a 67-60 victory over Greater Lawrence, outscoring the Reggies 29-14 in the final frame.

Anthony Buckley poured in 25 points and Demario Scarpegnato added 23 and they were a combined 6 for 6 from the free throw line in overtime as Whittier outlasted Mystic Valley 77-72. The Wildcats (10-1) were outscored 25-7 in the second quarter but battled in the second half.

Demario Scarpegnato scored a team-high 16 points as Whittier rolled past Minuteman 67-39.

After its first loss of the season, the Whittier boys basketball team bounced back with a victory over Lowell Catholic. Anthony Buckley and Demario Scarpegnato each had 19 points for the Wildcats (8-1).

Anthony Buckley scored 28 points but it wasn't enough as Whittier dropped its first game of the season, 67-66 to Greater Lowell.
