Austin ousts Andover

Austin Prep blanked Andover, 3-0, in the Division 1 state girls hockey quarterfinals. Andover coach Kevin Drew said, "They are the best team we've seen. There is nothing like this team. They have 8 or 9 kids who can really go. They had too much firepower. Sean D'Urso (27 saves) held us in there. She's our backbone and Emma Gilmartin played her heart out."

Andover topples No. 6 Melrose

MEDFORD — No. 22 Andover knocked off No. 6 Melrose, 4-3, in the first round of the state girls Division 1 hockey tourney.

The Golden Warriors (12-5-5) scored once in the first period then three goals in a six-minute span midway through second period. The game-winner was a short-handed tally from Emily Wagner. Melrose (17-4-1) scored a goal in each frame but Sean D'Urso (22 saves) and the Andover defense were up to the challenge.

Andover girls score first-round upset

Callie Willey potted a pair of second-period goals to send No. 22 Andover to a 3-2 upset win over No. 11 Lincoln-Sudbury in the Division 1 preliminary round. 
 
Allie Wright added the other Golden Warrior goal, and assist on one of Willey's tallies. Sean D'Urso once again starred in net, making 24 saves. The Warriors next face No. 6 Melrose on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Flynn Rink in Medford. Time is listed for 2 p.m. on MIAA.net.

ANdover wins classic

Host Hingham broke a scoreless tie early in the third but Andover would pull out a pulsating 2-1 win. Lilly Shannon scored with 1:36 to go and then Callie Wiley netted the game-winner with just 17 seconds left. Sean D'Urso stopped 23 shots. D'Urso and Wiley were Andover's co -MVPs for the tourney.

Andover wins shootout

The Andover girls hockey team won a shootout over powerhouse Duxbury to advance to the finals of the Hingham Showcase. It was 1-1 in regulation (Lilly Shannon scored on Andover's first shot of the game!). The Golden Warriors took the shootout 2-1. Sean D’Urso finished 18 saves and stopped all five shots in the shootout. Andover (9-5-5) will play for the title Thursday against host Hingham at 8 p.m. Duxbury fell to 16-3-2.

Freshman Lily Shannon scored an impressive four goals to lead Andover girls hockey to a 7-0 win over Acton-Boxboro. The win qualified the Warriors (9-3-2) for the state tournament.

Junior forward Emma Gilmartin tallied a hat-trick for Andover, as the Warriors earned a 4-0 win over Beverly in the Colleen Ritzer Memorial Game. Junior defenseman Madeline McLean was a standout on defense, keeping goalie Sean D'Urso to only 10 shots on net.

Andover bounces back big-time

The Andover girls hockey team lost Saturday to Shrewsbury, the ninth-ranked team in the Hockey Night in Boston Division 1 poll, on a goal with 16 seconds left. Sunday another bitter loss seemed inevitable for the Golden Warriors. but with left 1:58 left Emily Wagner scored and with 55 seconds left Ally Wright scored for a pulsating 3-2 win over Masconomet, the Chieftains second loss of the year. Sean D'Urso had 21 saves in the win.

Warrior heartbreak

For 44 minutes and 45 seconds, Andover girls hockey had kept Shrewsbury's electric goal-scorer Delaney Couture off the score sheet. But with 15 seconds remaining in a tie game, the Providence College commit found the back of the net to give Shrewsbury the 2-1 win.
