North Reading boys basketball trailed by 12 at halftime, and could get no closer, falling to Watertown 64-39 in the Division 3 North quarterfinals. Mike McCauley led the Hornets with 10 points.

Austin Prep boys basketball beat Marian 78-69 to clinch a state tournament berth for the second straight year. Andover's Stephen Reddy had 19 points and five 3-pointers, and Andover's Logan Bravo had 8 points and 14 rebounds.

North Reading's boys defeated Notre Dame of Lawrence 89-43 to qualify for the state tournament for the second straight year and fourth time in five years. Mike McCauley led the Hornets (10-4) with 17 points.

Senior Bob O'Donnell scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead North Reading to a 62-50 win over Masconomet. The Hornets exploded for 24 points in the fourth quarter, outscoring Masco by 13 in the final frame.

Sophomore Matt Solecki came out of nowhere and dropped a career-high 21 points to help North Reading erase a six-point halftime deficit to come back for the 79-60 win over Manchester Essex.

Senior Mike McCauley hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left to give North Reading its first lead of the second half and a 49-46 victory over Ipswich in what coach Joe Casey said was a "very poor performance." The Hornets were only 17 of 36 from the line."

North Reading outscored Amesbury 29-10 in the third quarter on its way to an 81-59 victory over Amesbury. Mike McCauley led the Hornets (4-1) with 19 points and Shawn Tilton had a career-high 16.

North Reading outscored Newburyport 15-4 in the second quarter and then held on in the second half for a season-opening 64-63 victory. Jackson Tormey came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points and aggressive senior Bobby O'Donnell hauled in 20 rebounds to go along with 10 points.
