Sizzling Steve Saba continued to swing an impeccable bat, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Methuen over Whittier, 10-2. Saba is now seven for his last eight. Kenny Polanco also had three hits and drove in a pair to help make a winner out of David Koerner.

Forgive David Campbell for savoring every at-bat, chasing down fly balls with a little more fervor than the next guy and dashing around the basepaths like it was his last time ever.

At this point, with Campbell's tough luck, it just might be.

HAVERHILL | Dennis Asselin is listed at No. 3 or 4 on the Whittier Tech pitching depth chart, but yesterday, the junior made his second bid for "staff ace," two-hitting Lynn Tech in a 7-0 victory.

In the end, Haverhill prevailed in its intra-city duel with Whittier, 2-1, but only by the closest of margins.

The host Wildcats played a superb defensive game, highlighted by shortstop A.J. DeRoche, and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.

Brian Meikle improved to 2-0 on the year, pitching his second straight gem for North Andover, which edged Whittier, 2-0. Billy Della Rocca had a pair of hits for the Knights. Dillon Ryan blasted a two-run homer for the Wildcats.
