North Reading Hornets Girls Track and Field '15

Sachems’ Kilian whips the field

In the North Sectional heptathlon, which was held Monday and Tuesday at North Reading High, Pentucket senior McKenna Kilian dominated the 68-competitor field. The versatile and talented Kilian had a 101-point lead after Day 1 (2,366 to 2,265) and built on it in a big way with the three events Tuesday. She racked up 4,066 points to easily beat runner-up Katie Maehl of Waltham (3,624). Kilian, who will compete at Central Connecticut, is now ranked fifth all-time in the area. Julia Valenti of North Reading was fifth with 3,435 points.

Another Valenti record

North Reading's Julia Valenti broke the EMass. Division 4 meet record with a 12-7.5 in the pole vault. That also added 1.5 inches to her all-time area mark. Jenna Raffael won the pentathlon and Cole Godzinski took the gold in the 100 hurdles and was second in the triple jump.

Kilian dazzles, Pentucket and North Reading tie for CAL meet crown

Multi-sport wiz McKenna Kilian continued her dominant senior season, winning the long jump (17-3) and high jump (5-2), running on the victorious 4x100 relay and taking second in the 400 in a career-best 60.10 to help Pentucket tie North Reading for the title at the Cape Ann League championship. Both teams scored 100 points.

Valenti fuels Hornets

 

Junior Julia Valenti cleared a school record 12-6 and won four events, including the shot put in 35-2 in her first try at the event, to pace North Reading's girls to a sweep on Ipswich and Masconomet and their second straight Cape Ann League title. Freshman Meredith Griffin won the mile in 5:28 for the Hornets, who are 17-0 in meets over the last two years.
