Coutts the hero again, leads Pinkerton to title

HOOKSETT, N.H. — Colin Coutts scored the decisive PK goal in Pinkerton's shootout win over Hanover in the Division 1 semifinals Wednesday.

He one-upped himself Saturday.

After leaving the game in the first half when a collision caused him a bloody nose, Coutts returned as quick as possible and he netted the game-winner in the 69th minute to lift seventh-seeded Pinkerton 2-1 over top-seeded Manchester Central in the Division 1 boys soccer championship here at Southern New Hampshire University.

Cinderella Astros beat defending champ on PKs, advance to final

EXETER — Kyle Hicks, Chris Ronan, Alex Ebner and Colin Coutts combined to go 4-for-4 in the shootout as seventh-ranked Astros earned a 2-1 decision over third-ranked and defending state champion Hanover in the semifinals.

Hanover (13-5-1) scored on its first penalty kick attempt by Asa Berolzheimer, but tiny keeper Hayden Pavao played like a giant after that. He stopped Luke Strohbehn on the second shot and Hanover goalie on the fourth try of the PKs.

Coutts then beat Mitchell to send the Astros to the finals.

Hicks scored for Pinkerton from 40 yards out but Hanover knotted it midway through the second half.

In overtime, Hicks had two opportunities to score on corner tries and Hanover’s Caldwell was stopped from 10 yards out by Pavao.

EXETER — Penalty kicks can be nerve-wracking for both the penalty taker and goalie, but everything came up roses Wednesday for Pinkerton Academy of Derry.

Kyle Hicks, Chris Ronan, Alex Ebner and Colin Coutts each contributed to a 4-for-4 performance in the shootout to lead the seventh-ranked Astros to a 2-1 decision over third-ranked and defending state champion Hanover in the semifinals of the NHIAA Division I boys’ soccer tournament at Bill Ball Stadium.
