Ryan Sanborn's RBI sac fly in the seventh inning plated the game-winning run as No. 2 seeded North Reading won 5-4 over 19th-seeded Austin Prep in walkoff fashion in the semifinals of the Division 3 North tournament.

Hornets advance

 

Thanks to a complete-game effort by Scott Allan and RBI hits by Tom Day and Ryan Sanborn (game-winning triple), North Reading edged Bishop Fenwick 2-1 in Division 2 North action to extend the career of veteran coach Frank Carey at least one more game.

Impressive tuneup

 

In its last regular season game, North Reading's baseball team crushed Triton 11-0. Ryan Boucher went six innings, allowing just four hits, for the win and both Ryan Sanborn and Scott Allen blasted homers as the Hornets enter the tournament with a 16-4 record.

North Reading 7, TBA 5

With the Nipper Clancy Tournament championship on the line, Scott Leslie delivered a gritty performance, on the mound and at the plate, lifting North Reading to the title with a 7-5 win over Lynn Rnglish.
Leslie snapped a 5-5 tie in the top of the seventh with a two-run double. He also picked up the win on the hill with a seven-hitter, walking six and striking out five. Thomas Day had three hits in the leadoff spot to pass the 10-hit North Reading attack.

Ryan Sanborn's huge afternoon, with four hits and four RBIs, helped power North Reading in a 12-9 shootout with Pentucket. Keith Linnane drove in three for the winners. Leadoff man Pat Beaton had three hits and drove in a pair for the Sachems.

Another milestone for Carey

North Reading’s Frank Carey set the Massachusetts record for all-time wins by a baseball head coach last week with victory No. 726. He set yet another milestone yesterday by coaching in his 1,000th career game. The Hornets won 4-3 over Hamilton-Wenham on a walkoff, two-out single to right-center by Scott Allen. It scored Colby Maiola who led off the bottom of the eighth by getting hit by a pitch. Maiola then stole second and third.

Allan earns two wins

North Reading's Scott Allan used a big day to record a pair of victories on the hill yesterday.

With North Reading set to complete a game against Newburyport that had been postponded after nine innings on April 7, Allan pitched the lone inning as the Hornets scored seven times to win 9-2 in the 10th yesterday.

Nice Day for a walkoff

Down 8-7, North Reading scratched together just enough offense to avoid the Amesbury High upset bit. The Hornets loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, then tied it on a wild pitch, scoring the game-winner on a bases-loaded, walk-off walk to Thomas Day.
