Sophomore guard Carley Swartz had five 3-pointers and 20 points as North Reading whipped Saugus 60-36.

Pentucket took its first lead of the game in the third overtime, and paced by a career-high 32 points by Kelsi McNamara the Sachems stunned North Reading 60-52 in three OTs.

North Reading's girls basketball team outscored Amesbury 20-5 in the decisive third quarter on its way to a 59-56 victory over Amesbury that qualified the Hornets (10-5) for the tournament.

Carly Swartz knocked down North Reading's lone 3-pointer of the game with just over a minute left to give her squad the lead, and Julia McDonald scored her only points of the game on three crucial free throws in the final minute to give the Hornets a 51-46 victory over Manchester Essex.

Kelsi McNamara netted a season-high 22 points and McKenna Kilian had eight points and 10 rebounds as they led Pentucket to a win over North Reading 52-38.  

Coach John DePasquale's North Reading Hornets defeated Ursaline Academy 57-41 in the Cougar Classic final on Saturday. DePasquale had previously coached Ursaline Academy for 12 years, winning a state title in 2005.
