Demers, Central starters hit on all cylinders in victory over Andover

LAWRENCE — It was the question on everyone’s mind heading into Thanksgiving Day.

Would Central Catholic, already secured a spot in the Super Bowl in nine days, play its starters in its annual holiday contest against Andover with nothing at stake but pride?

Eberth, Perry power Warriors offense

PEABODY — Andover just missed qualifying for the Division I playoffs, but that hasn't kept the Golden Warriors from enjoying themselves in the also-ran category.

One week after posting a 29-point victory, the Warriors continued their winning ways with a convincing 35-14 victory over Peabody last night. The offensive explosion held true to season-long form which has seen Andover post at least 33 points in each of their five wins, while being held to 22 or fewer in each of their four losses.

Andover revs it up, dusts Lawrence

ANDOVER — Andover High football coach E.J. Perry has issued the ultimatum.
Jobs for 2014 will be won or lost here in November of 2013.
"Coach told us he will find the players, the guys who want to go hard, who want to win," said junior Chris Nicholas after Andover opened its non-playoff November with a 39-10 thumping of Lawrence. "It was tough not making the playoffs, and we just wanted to come out and prove we're a talented team. This is the time to get ready for next year."
If Nicholas' night is a harbinger of future Warrior Friday nights, things are most certainly looking up.
The 6-foot, 160-pound junior caught 5 passes for 112 yards and a pair of TDs.
With his two QBs splitting time between the signal caller spot and receiver, coach Perry saw his offense run efficiently with little resistance from the Lancers, who tumbled to 2-6.
E.J. Perry IV went 7 of 8 for 146 yards and three TDs through the year, while Oliver Eberth completed 10 of 15 for 96 more yards and score.
EJ4 caught a 21-yard TD toss from Eberth, who was on the receiving end of a TD connection from the frosh, too.
Meanwhile, the Warrior defense did just enough.
He-man Omel Bonilla clogged the inside running game all night, while captain Ben Hartford pierced the Lancers for three sacks. On the back end, Nicholas picked off a pair of Lancer passes.
Andover heads to Peabody on Friday night for a date with Tanner defensive coordinator — and former Warrior assistant — Dave Bettencourt. Lawrence will host Chelmsford, Thursday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Andover can't solve Lowell

LOWELL — With its playoff hopes in the newly realigned Massachusetts football scene still very much in question, Andover was hoping to solidify its case with a key victory last night.

Unfortunately for the Golden Warriors, they could find very little on offense against a gritty Lowell front, and their defense eventually broke down as the Red Raiders dealt Andover a rough 28-7 loss.

Eikenberry, Sylvester lead Andover to big win

ANDOVER — Just weeks ago, Andover suffered through a drought that saw the Golden Warriors score just one offensive touchdown over a nine-quarter stretch.

Sylvester, Andover run over Billerica

BILLERICA — The first month-plus of the season had been a nightmare for Andover running back Jack Sylvester.

An ankle injury kept him out of the opener and hobbled him for Game 2, and two personal fouls against Central Catholic led to a suspension a week ago against Chelsmsford.

Defense struggles cost Andover in loss to Chelmsford

ANDOVER — Just before kickoff last night in Andover, the stadium lights blacked out at Eugene V. Lovely Field, causing a nearly 40-minute delay.

Unfortunately for the Golden Warriors, it wasn’t much better from there, as they fell behind by 22 points in the second quarter and lost to Chelmsford 43-22.
