The cheering that could heard after the game from the Londonderry locker room set the scene of the night. It was small but significant enough as Londonderry had just upset a Salem team that was favored from the beginning.

Most high school players dream of tallying a hat trick in a game. Against Pinkerton on Feb. 6, Londonderry's Tommy Thompson needed only a period to tally three goals.

"That big first period against Pinkerton was pretty exciting," said Thompson.

Tommy Thompson scored twice, and Scott Morrison struck on the power play with less than a minute to go in overtime as Londonderry edged Nashua South 3-2. Joel Willbrant was stellar as well, making 26 saves and stopping two breakaway attempts. The win improved the Lancers to 5-6-2, 3-5-2 in Division 1.

The inexperienced, finesse-minded Lancers, with five freshmen on the roster, were simply overwhelmed by Pinkerton's physical first-period play. After the first, Pinkerton led by a goal but, by the time the game ended, the Astros emerged with a 5-1 victory thanks to some ugly play around the net.
