For only the second time in program history and first time since 1977, North Reading boys basketball went undefeated during the regular season. 

The Hornets, behind John Mastascusa's 17 points, posted a 61-46 victory over Shawsheen to cap off a 20-0 regular season. 

Traling by as many as 14 points in the second quarter, North Reading rallied all the way back, and with 14 seconds left in the game Dan Fitzgerald made a steal and Mike O'Brien sunk two free throws to allow the Hornets to stay unbeaten, downing Triton 46-44. Tommy Hogan put North Reading ahead to stay with a 3-pointer with a minute to play.

North Reading 6-4 senior forward John Mastascusa,, tied his season in points (26) to lead the Hornets 58-38 over Hamilton-Wenham in boys basketball action. 

WEST NEWBURY – Even if you’ve gone undefeated the first two months of a season, it doesn’t mean you’re ready for prime time. At least, not quite yet.

In one of the better displays of two-way team defense the CAL has seen in a while, North Reading survived a suffocating effort from Newburyport for a 32-25 victory. Tommy Hogan and Mike O'Brien had nine points apiece for the unbeaten Hornets, who clinched a share of the league title with the win.

North Reading boys basketball improved to 12-0 with an another strong effort from Tommy Hogan. 

Hogan netted  14 points, including pouring in four 3-pointers. The Hornets had eight 3-pointers all together in their 69-41 non-conference win over Shawsheen. 

For the first time since 1983, North Reading boys basketball is 10-0.

The Hornets rolled 66-38 over Amesbury after leading by just two points at halftime. 

Tommy Hogan scored 17 of his 21 points during the second half. 

North Reading basketball is off to an 8-0 start for the "first time in forever," said head coach Joe Casey after defeating Manchester Essex, 65-51. Chris Capozzoli led all scorers with 19 points and added six rebounds for the Hornets while John Mastascusa had eight points and eight boards.

North Reading boys basketball improved to 6-0 with Tommy Hogan (14), John Mastascusa (11), Chris Capozzoli (11) all reaching double digits in scoring. The Hornets rolled 57-44 over Hamilton-Wenham. 

Senior forward Dan Fitzgerald scored16 points and added eight rebounds as North Reading boys basketball held on 44-41 after heading into the fourth with a five-point advantage in a huge Cape Ann League clash.
