Whittier's girls dominated underneath in a 63-55 victory over Newburyport. Samnel Vonleh had 12 points to go with her 10 rebounds while Josie Sanchez and Dominque Ortiz had 10 and 9 rebounds respectively.

Andrea Terranova scored a team-high 16 points as Whittier turned a six-point deficit after three quarters into a 53-47 victory over Greater Lowell.

Sophomore guard Kayla Riley finished with 15 points and four blocks as Whittier girls basketball won 60-48 over Notre Dame to improve to 5-1.

Dominique Ortiz pumped in 21 points and Whittier downed Greater Lawrence 69-39. Michaela Martin added 8 points and 5 steals. Escarlin Reynoso had 21 points for the Reggies.

Samnell Vonleh blocked 15 shots and Josie Sanchez recorded 13 blocks but Whittier girls basketball lost 76-58 to powerhouse Brockton.

Kayla Riley had 13 points and Samnell Vonleh pumped in 12 as Whittier downed Wayland 57-44. But the big story was the 6-4 Vonleh (13) and 6-1 Josie Sanchez (8) combined for 21 blocks.

Anyalina Martinez sparked Whittier with six steals in the second quarter alone and the Cats drubbed Northeast 55-22.

A 2 1/2-hour bus ride couldn't derail Whittier, which rolled to a 66-19 season-opening win over Cape Cod Tech. Andrea Terranova led the Wildcats with 16 points.
