Andover cruises to MVC meet title

As expected, it was all Andover in the MVC Division 1 swim meet. The Golden Warriors outscored runner-up Chelmsford 528-427.

Ashlee Korsberg posted impressive wins 200 and 500 freestyles. Her twin sister Alexa won the 100 butterfly. Deborah Daly took first in the diving. Other winners were Maeve Awiszus (100 backstroke) and Maggie D'Innocenzo  (100 breaststroke).

Senior Shelby scores

Haverhill sent 13 graduating swimmers to the blocks on Senior Day and all contributed in a 98-80 victory over Central Catholic. Shelby Duckworth contributed valuable points, placing second in the 200 IM, fourth in 500 free and was part of the third-place 200 freestyle relay team.

Brilliant Brodericks

Sarah Broderick (500 free) and her sister Meaghan Broderick (50 and 100 freestyles) combined for three wins and starred on the relays as Haverhill raced past Lowell.

In the second of three MVC diving meets, Haverhill was in charge as winner Leigh Freeman led three Hillies into the top five. Michaela Sliney was runner-up while Lauren Clark came in fifth.

With head coach Rick Battistini out with back surgery, Haverhill rallied for a 95-86 win over Methuen.

Freshman Michaela Sliney won the 100 breaststroke (1:15.30) and the diving (233.05) and was part of two winning relays teams.

Broderick comes up big

Sarah Broderick won the 200 freestyle (1:57.94) and 100 backstroke (1:01.99) and was a member of the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay as Haverhill tied Chelmsford 93-93.

Cali Aramian had an impressive first place in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly and was on two winning relays as Haverhill drowned Dracut 95-83. Freshman Michaela Sliney, Meg Broderick and Maggie Franklin also stood out and captain Bridget Stemmler highlighted the day with a second in the 200 IM, edging out one of five Dracut boys in the meet.

Maggie Franklin won the 200 and 500 freestyle in state qualifying times and contributed to both winning relays as Haverhill swimming defeated Melrose, 93-69. "Maggie provided a big boost for us," said Hillie coach Rick Battistini.

Captains Sarah Broderick, Bridget Stemmler, Erin McGuiggan and Shelby Duckworth combined to win the three relays and the other captain, Theresa Fullerton, took home two silvers as Haverhill drubbed Notre Dame.
