Hornets take tight win

Junior Ryan Barrows ran his record to 12-0 and sophomore Mike Pappas turned in a complete effort as North Reading edged Triton in tennis, 3-2. "Playing first singles in the CAL is tough but Mike has played well all year," said coach Mark Bisognano. "(Yesterday,) he had consistent ground strokes and good net play, he played a complete match."

Doubles heroes

 

Down 4-0 in the final set in the decisive match, North Andover's first doubles team of Andrew Smith and Kyle White won six straight games to give North Andover a 3-2 victory over North Reading, handing the Hornets their first loss of the season. Earlier, the second doubles team of Justin Daly and Jonah Knopping prevailed 6-2, 6-4 in thir first varsity match.

Wild finish

As roller-coaster matches go, this one was extreme. Pentucket's Jack Donahue battled off four match points in the second set, evened his third singles match in a tiebreaker and won the first four games of the deciding set. But North Reading's Chris Harrow stormed back to take the next six games, winning the match and giving the Hornets an emotional 3-2 victory. Ryan Barrows also fought off the Sachems' Jimmy Beaton in another exciting three-set match to remain undefeated for North Reading.

Rally for a win

In the final match of the day, Kyle Harris and Jack Maidment rallied to score the final three points and take a 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles and give North Reading a 3-2 victory over Lynnfield.

Almost a perfect start

North Reading boys tennis coach Mark Bisognano saw his preseason thoughts come true in a 4-1 win over Malden. "(In Mike Pappas, Ryan Barrows and Kyle Harris, who swept yesterday) we have the potential to have a strong singles lineup. Our doubles are a little inexperienced but played well, like first doubles (Chris Harrow and Jack Maidment), who lost a tough three-set match."
