'Best record'

 

 

North Reading's softball team enjoyed an impressive 4-1 victory over Tewksbury to finish the regular season at 18-2, which its best mark going into the tournament since 1991. Leadoff batter Shelby Carney was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Terri Ferrazzani threw a three-hitter for the win.

Suicide win

 

North Reading's softball team nipped Lynnfield 1-0 when Shelby Carney brought in freshman Sophie Warren with a suicide squeez bunt in the third inning. Merri Moise got the only hit for the Hornets (17-2), a line single in the first after fouling off 11 pitches.

With a 17-1 romp over Manchester Essex, North Reading softball coach Rusty Russell won his 400th game. Tarah Reilly led the way fr the Hornbets (16-2) with three hits, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Tarah Reilly and winning pitcher Terri Ferrazzani both had bases-loaded triples to pace North Reading to a surprising easy 14-1 victory over Amesbury. Reilly finished with four hits and five RBIs for the Hornets (15-2).

Mismatch revenge

 

What was supposed to be a Cape Ann League showdown became a mismatch as North Reading (11-2) blasted Masconomet 17-2 —  the same Masconomet team that beat the Hornets earlier in the season.Terri Ferrazzani threw a one-hitter in the five-inning game, striking out seven, and had two hits and four RBIs. Shelby Carney and Tarah Reilly both had three hits and scored three runs.

Just enough to win

North Reading's Terri Ferrazzani and Lynnfield's Melody Mancinelli hooked up in a classic pitchers duel, yielding just two hits apiece. With a second-inning suicide squeeze from sophomore Tarah Reilly and a fourth-inning RBI triple from Ferrazzani, North Reading did just enough to escape with a 2-0 victory. Shelby Carney backed Ferrazzani up with six putouts in center field and Merri Moise took a pair of Lynnfield hits away with her strong range at shortstop.

In a battle of unbeatens and perennial powers, Terri Ferrazzani and North Reading outdueled Carolina Merrill and Amesbury 2-0. Both teams had three hits but Ferrazzani was sharper, striking out eight without issuing a walk.
