Andrew Wells and Anthony Licciardello each homered over the wall, and Nate Frongillo added an inside the park homer as Whittier beat up on Lynn Tech 9-0. Wells drove in five runs, and pitched four shutout innings to earn the win on the mound.

Mahoney strikes out 16

Paul Mahoney threw a complete game, three-hit shutout and struck out a career-high 16 batters as Whittier baseball won 7-0 over Chelsea.

Hawkins the hero

Corey Hawkins singled in Paul Mahoney with  one out in the bottom of the ninth to give Whittier a 4-3 win over previously unbeaten Shawsheen. Andrew Wells went the distance, whiffing 10.

No Wildcat letup

 

Whittier's baseball team continued to roll, blasting Triton 11-1. Paul Mahoney threw a nifty two-hitter, striking out 11, and the Wildcats (5-0) pulled away with a seven-run second inning highlighted by a Brian Vezina (2 for 4) triple and a three-run double by Andrew Wells (3 for 4).

Spinning a gem

Starter Brian Vezina allowed just one hit in four innings, and Shane Surette and Connor Manning combined for three innings of one-hit relief, neither walking a batter to help Whittier roll over North Shore 15-0. Catcher Anthony Licciardello added three hits, four RBIs and threw one of North Shore's three base runners out trying to steal.

Surette wins opener for Whittier

A Shane Surette single in the bottom of the seventh inning was the difference, as Whittier beat Lowell Catholic 6-5 to open the season. Surette's base knock plated Andrew Wells, who also got the win on the mound after seven innings of work.
