Pinkerton comeback tops Alvirne

CARL RUSSO/Staff photo. DERRY NEWS: Before the start of the Pinkerton baseball game last Friday, a small ceremony was held in memory of the late Ralph J. Van Nostrand, a 37-year faculty member, career counselor, mentor, and coach who passed away in January. His wife, Sue and their children, Mike and Katie were introduced as speeches were made remembering coach Van Nostrand. After a moment of silence, his son and daughter, Mike and Katie threw out the ceremonial ''first pitch'' simultaneously to Pinkerton catchers, Andrew Curran and Matt Marchman to end the ceremony. The Astros congratulate teammate, Andrew Curran (5) after crossing home plate to score early in the game. Andrew Curran's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh capped off a four-run seventh and gave Pinkerton a thrilling 8-7 win over Alvirne.  Drew Sutherland went 3 for 5 with a home run. Brandon Rodgers had a triple. Andrew Hurlihy came in for relief andallowed just one hit.
