Chris Capozzoli netted 22 points and collected eight rebounds to help North Reading boys basketball hold off Ipswich 60-57.

The Hornets had a 15-point halftime lead but Ipswich outscored them 17-8 in the third to make a comeback. 

Danny Fitzgerald, in his first game back from a fractured back, and Tommy Hogan each had two free throws in the final 30 seconds and Evan Wade had a big steal with five seconds left as North Reading nipped Amesbury, 48-46.

Corey McNamara and Will Angelini combined for 48 points including 16 of Pentucket's 20 in the fourth period as the Sachems down North Reading, 63-57.

Zach Karalis scored a game-best 26 points and added to it with 10 rebounds and 10 assists as North Andover ran past North Reading, 76-61. Isaiah Nelsen added 20 points and Jimmy Warden had 14 for the 13-1 Knights.

Georgetown showed its best defense (holding North Reading to just two free throws in the first quarter) and its worst (giving up 38 points in a furious Hornet fourth-quarter comeback) last night, but timely free throw shooting saved the Royals in a 71-68 victory. North Reading carved a 17-point deficit down to three behind 21 points from Tommy Hogan, but Tyler Wade (24 points) and Pat Bjork (16 points) hit 13 foul shots down the stretch to preserve the win.

Trailing by 15 in the third quarter, North Reading's boys basketball team rallied for a 57-55 victory, handing Manchester Essex its first loss of the season. Tom Hogan had 17 of his game-high 23 points in the second half including two free thriows with 10 seconds left. Chris Capozzollo had 13 of his 15 points in the second half for the Hornets (4-4) and had a huge 3-pointer in the final minute.

With nine 3-pointers, Lynnfield's offense was unstoppable in a 66-59 victory over North Reading. Chris Capozzoli had 17 points while Evan Wade and Mike O'Brien added 16 points each for North Reading.

North Reading blitzed Minuteman, 60-40, to win the Austin Prep Christmas Tourney. Tommy Hogan was named MVP and Brian Smith made all-tourney. Evan Wade scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in first half.

Junior guard Tommy Hogan pumped in 12 points and junior center Chris Capozzoli added 15 as North Reading roughed up St. Clement, 74-36, for its first win of the season.

North Reading's offense went cold in the second half as 4 for 30 shooting gave Hamilton-Wenham enough of an opening to prevail, 51-44. Junior Evan Wade drained four 3-pointers en route to a team-high 14 points for the Hornets.
