Astros hold off upset-minded Rangers

After watching an 11-point halftime lead evaporate during Methuen’s 21-point third quarter, Pinkerton converted five of six free throws in the fourth period for a 47-44 victory in the fifth-place game. Kayla Stacy scored seven of her 13 points in the final period to pace the Astros (5-1) while Abby Galloway-Burke led the Rangers (1-4) with 18, including 14 after intermission. Methuen might have pulled off the upset if it didn’t miss 10 of its 14 free throw tries.

Petrow, Rangers race past Salem

NORTH ANDOVER — Amanda Petrow erupted for 23 points to lift Methuen to a 62-48 win over Salem in the consolation round of the Greater Lawrence Christmas Tourney. Petrow did much of her work at the line, hitting 11 of 17 from the charity stripe.

Lowell 59, Methuen 48

A strong Lowell defense whittled away Methuen's early lead and sent the Red Raiders to a 59-48 victory. For the Rangers, Beka Costa had 13 points and 9 deflections, Amanda Petrow had 12 points and 13 rebounds, Abby Galloway-Burke registered a game-high 16 points and added 8 rebounds.
