Tourney berth through teamwork

With assists on all but one goal, North Reading exhibited strong team play in its 15-1 lacrosse win over Malden. Defensemen Brian Smith and Chris Schipelliti played very well in the near shutout as the Hornets (10-1) qualified for state tourney play faster than any other season in the program's history.

No quit in North Reading

Eric Valenti and Cody Carbone came through big-time for North Reading in a 7-6 overtime victory against host Wakefield. After trailing 6-4 going into the fourth quarter, Valenti tied the game with just over a minute left in regulation then fed Carbone with 30 seconds left in OT for the game-winner. Strong defensive play from Chris Schipelliti, Brian Smith and Conor Murnane combined with big saves from goalie Andrew Burns to set the stage for the win.

Manchester Essex 7, North Reading 6 (OT)

Despite a paucity of offense, North Reading pushed its game with Manchester Essex into overtime. The Hornets survived a man disadvantage into the early stages of the extra session, but Manchester scored 50 seconds into OT to deal North Reading its first loss of the season, 7-6. Long pole midfielder Eric Valenti was a force in the loss, contributing an assist and some valuable energy.
