Raiders clinch league crown.

Courtney O'Neil and Christine Keenan each scored four goals as Central Catholic beat Haverhill 17-5.

"This clinched the MVC Small title for us," said Raiders coach Phil Rowley, whose team improved to 15-1 for the season. "So this was big for us. The girls really stepped up."

ANDOVER — Considering both teams were averaging at least 12.9 goals per game, last night’s matchup between Central Catholic and Andover promised to be an offensive delight.

The host Golden Warriors, however, were the only ones to live up to the billing.

Defense does the trick

Strong defense and the scoring of Christine Keenan dealt Medford its first loss as host Central Catholic prevailed, 13-5. Keenan had four goals and three assists while the back line of Katey Scionti, Erin Masucci (goal) and sophomore Claire Foggo excelled with its shutdown defense. Marri Anthoine was stellar on ground balls and won important draws for the Raiders.

Junior Merri Anthoine had a "fantastic game," according to head coach Phil Rowley as her two-goal, one-assist effort helped Central Catholic stay unbeaten, 11-2 over Austin Prep. Goalie Mary Foggo drew praise from Rowley for strong ball-handling and excellent outlet passes.
