The bottom of Salem's order is better than the heart of most teams'. No. 6 hitter Samantha Cloutier (3 RBIs, 2 runs), No. 7 Stephanie Cabral (2 runs, 2 RBIs), No. 8 Rachel Morrissey (2 RBIs) and No. 9 Sara Bracken (3 RBIs, 2 hits) showed the way in a 5-inning, 13-0, tourney-opening win over Keene. Nicole Gubellini fanned six in four innings of two-hit ball.

Geena Terino and Samantha Cloutier each homered, while Jade Morrison and Nicole Gubellini added triples as the Salem softballers roughed up Keene, 10-1.

Meg Short went 3 for 3 with two triples and three RBIs as Timberlane rallied for its second straight win, 12-11 over Keene. Sydney Doherty was also huge at the plate with a triple among her three hits and four RBIs.

Grand-slam Byrd

Rachel Byrd hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to highlight a six-run inning as Pinkerton clipped Keene 8-1. Also, pinch-hitter Molly Harrington had a two-run single in the frame and winning pitcher Sam Hennequin had one of her two hits.
