Lange, Butterfield lead Lancers

Masha Lange bashed a solo home run to lead off the third inning, while Shirley Butterfield smashed a two-run double to pull Timberlane softball ahead for good in the sixth inning. Butterfield also earned the win on the mound, hurling a complete game as Londonderry won 6-3 over Nashua South.

Lancer lightning

Junior Sam Corey struck out a dozen and Samantha Nitso homered to drive in three as Londonderry dropped Timberlane, 8-3. Leadoff hitter Masha Lange paced the Owls with two hits and two runs scored.

Timberlane's softball team, after losing its first 11 games, won its third straight, beating Winnacunnet 9-3. Masha Lange was 3 for 3 and scored three runs and Meaghan Bishop had a double and three RBIs.

Meg Short went 3 for 3 with two triples and three RBIs as Timberlane rallied for its second straight win, 12-11 over Keene. Sydney Doherty was also huge at the plate with a triple among her three hits and four RBIs.

Closer than expected

 

Salem's softball team defeated winless Timberlane as expected yesterday, but it was hardly a rout, scoring all its runs in the fifth inning for a 4-0 victory.

"They've gotten a lot better and didn't play like a team that hadn't won a game," said Salem coach Harold Sachs.

Timberlane's Katie Matatall and Nicole Sharpe drove in runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings but the Owls lost in eight innings 12-11 to Bishop Guertin. Caroline Salvaneschi drove in five Owl runs.

Slugging Byrd

 Pinkerton freshman Rachel Byrd (3 for 5) had a debut to remember in a season-opening 15-11 softball victory over Timberlane, slugging a three-run homer, a three-run triple and driving in seven runs. Britney Bernard had four hits for the Astros. For Timberlane, Sydney Doherty had a solo homer and Shirley Butterfield had a two-run triple.
