Phillips wins 12th title

Down 3-0 after five innings, the Phillips Academy baseball team did what it traditionally does best. The Big Blue found ways to rally and win. Phillips stunned Deerfield Academy with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, walking off with the 4-3 decision and the program's 12th Central New England Prep School Baseball League title since 1995.
Tournament MVP Isaac Lamson drove in the game-winner in the seventh inning with a single. The sophomore third baseman was 3 for 3 with three RBIs in the title win for Phillips.
Jake Needham struck out five in three innings to earn the championship win in relief of Cole Mascott.
In the semifinals on Sunday, it was Phillips 20-1 over Dexter Southfield. Rowley's Thomas White dominated in the win with strong innings, striking out a dozen and allowing four hits and a pair of walks.

White dazzles again

Two outings into the season, and Phillips Academy junior Thomas White has yet to yield a hit. In Friday's 3-0 win over Belmont Hill, the lefty went three hitless innings, striking out eight. A week ago, he fanned eight in four hitless frames against Bridgton. Haverhill's Tommy McAndrews was 2 for 2 in the win.

Phillips Academy sent 10 wrestlers to the National Prep School Championships over the weekend, with the girls team taking first place overall with 95 points, more than double the total of its nearest competitor.
The Big Blue featured three different individual champions: 107-pounder Sakina Cotton, 132-pounder Dani Nugent and 235-pounder Eleanor DeHoog.
Bradford's Eva Murphy was fourth in the 120-pound division, while Wendi Zheng (2nd, 126) and Giselle Jones-Mollod (3rd, 152) also found the podium.
Boxford 145-pounder Colin Nugent went 3-2 at nationals, following his Class A title and runner-up performance at New Englands. He finished the year at 23-4.

Trailing by five points late in the second quarter, Brooks outscored Phillips Andover by 31 points the rest of the way on the way to a 72-46 win. Brady Cummins scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half, then Darrel Yepdo tallied 15 of his 20 points in the second half for the winners.
