Isabel Hulse scored Masco's first goal on a power play with about five minutes to play and Molly Elmore made 25 saves.

Seniors power Methuen softball to semis

METHUEN - Jason Smith only has two seniors on his softball squad, but it turns out the Methuen coach has quality in his pair.

While Kelsie McGonagle was throttling the Peabody offense, Taylor Cassidy provided her classmate all the support she would need with a pair of run-scoring singles as the Rangers advanced to the Division 1 North semifinals with a 4-1 victory Tuesday night over the fifth-seeded Tanners.

Methuen still unbeaten

 

Methuen tuned up for a Wednesday showdown at Central Catholic by sweeping a quad-meet to remain unbeaten at 22-0, its toughest meet being a 45-30 win over a strong Westford club. Travis Manick stayed unbeaten with a pair of wins at 195 while Evan Stoddard (113), Chris Ramos (132) and Justin Sheehan (138) were all 3-0 on the day.

Dish served cold

Triton's Robi Ullah got his revenge against Peabody's Jack Murphy on Thursday, beating the fellow 106-pounder 17-12 after losing to him 13-12 in the CAL/NEC Open. The Vikings also got a big 8-6 win from Sam Orender at 182 pounds, and Steve Particelli fought back from a 5-0 deficit to win his 195-pound match 7-5 in overtime. The end result was another big win for Triton wrestling, who beat Peabody 48-12.
