Tess Gobiel tallied seven goals, and Haley Carver added four scores as Andover topped Peabody 17-10. Allie Batchelder made eight saves for the winners.

Nadine Abdat notched a team-high 13 kills and five blocks to lead No. 3 North Andover to a thrilling 3-2 win over No. 14 Peabody in the Division 1 Round of 16. The Scarlet Knights won the first two sets, then dropped two before taking the fifth and decisive set 15-11.

Jackie Giordano surrendered just two earned runs, but No. 14 Andover fell to unbeaten No. 2 Peabody 6-0 in the Division 1 North semifinals.

Methuen gave Peabody a battle but the 16-0 Tanners advanced with a 6-3 win in the Division 1 North quarterfinals. Methuen's Steph Tardugno, Jenny Grelle, Avry Nelson (2 runs) and Kiele Coleman (2 RBI) each had two hits. The Rangers, who made the 2019 state finals, made the tourney for the 20th straight season and posted their 18th straight winning season. 

Abby Bettencourt, the latest standout from that legendary athletic family, fired a perfect game, striking out 11,  as unbeaten Peabody blanked Haverhill, 6-0, in the Division 1 North first round.

The HPNA hockey team scored four goals in the third period to pull away from a strong Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading team, 5-1. Hannah Keating scored twice for HPNA, which remained unbeaten (7-0-2)

Olivia Gotobed, the MVC Player of the Year, was in prime form Monday as she paced the North Andover girls soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Peabody in the Division 1 North quarterfinals.

The John Sexton era at Central Catholic started off with a dominant 3-0 shutout off Peabody. The first-year coach saw pitchers Jonathan Montanile and Ryan Semenetz combine for the two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Johan Mejia was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Lewis Colin drove home two more runs as Lawrence opened its season by beating Peabody 4-0. Miguel Matos went the distance for the winners, striking out eight and allowing just four hits.

Methuen tuned up for its Merrimack Valley Conference Wednesday night showdown against Central Catholic by sweeping a home quad-meet, the most impressive win being 46-25 over Dual County League champions Westford Academy. Erick Lucas was 3-0 at 195 and 220 combined and Matt Cabezas and Jarmany Colon both remained undefeated.had strong days
