 Nobles claimed the Big East Softball Tournament Championship, knocking off Tabor Academy, 7-5, in the title game.
Brooks school advanced to the semis but fell to Tabor, 2-1. Kyleigh Matola's solo homer was all the offense Brooks could muster in that one.
Earlier in the day, Jackie Giordano tossed a no-hit shutout as Brooks eliminated Phillips Andover, 1-0. Giordano struck 11 and walked one, facing just one over the mininum in the 65-pitch performance.

Eddy leads big win

Haverhill's Kendall Eddy scored a team-high 25 points as undefeated Brooks handed Tabor its first loss of the season, 79-57 on Saturday. Brooks improved to 11-0, while Tabor fell to 9-1.

Dramatic first win for Brooks

NORTH ANDOVER — Brooks scored the final 20 points of the game in the fourth quarter to pull out a dramatic 33-28 win over Tabor Saturday afternoon. 
Michael Wolfendale of Methuen had a TD pass to Nomar Tejada then scored on runs of 1 and 9 yards to rally the Green and White in the fourth quarter of the season finale.
Tejada caught five passes for 95 yards and had a team-high eight tackles. Rayden Waweru added seven tackles and an interception. Andrew Agosti (3.5 sacks) and Jeremy Ernch (2.5 sacks) were immense.
It was a memorable sendoff for the seniors, who got their first win of the fall and a week after Brooks forfeited to Lawrence Academy "due to injury and illness."
An elated coach Patrick Foley said, "I am so happy for our entire team and particularly for our seniors. We talked all week about giving everything we had for them and sending them out with a win. Every guy on our team did that. I am super proud of them."

Nugent a winner

 

Freshman Colin Nugent was an impressive champion for Phillips Academy at the Tabor Tournament, pinning all four opponents on his way to the 126-pound title. He was joined in the winner's circle by 170-pounder Eamon Garrity-Rokus as Phillips finished eighth in the 28-team field.

Manzi leads Brooks to comeback win

NORTH ANDOVER — John Manzi ran for a career-best 112 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the third quarter, as Brooks capped its season with a 19-14 victory over Tabor Academy.

Phillips takes down champs

After winning the Class B championship a year ago, the Tabor Academy girls soccer team moved up to Class A this fall. But undefeated Phillips handed it its first loss of the season on Saturday, winning 2-0. Nicola Sommers, Emma Hogg and Mary Stuart Kerrigan combined to lead a stellar defensive effort to keep Tabor off the board.

NECC Roundup

The Northern Essex volleyball team picked up a solid 3-0 win over MassBay on Saturday. Andover's Sarah Shattuck led the offense with 11 kills and 11 aces. The men's soccer team was also in action but fell to Roxbury, 6-1. Salem's Anthony Bellomo made 14 saves and Haverhill's Colton Smith scored the lone Knights goal.

The Brooks girls lacrosse team got off to a nice start to the season thanks to the play of North Andover duo Taylor Charpentier and Morgan Arakelian. Both scored twice in a season-opening 8-7 win over Tabor.

Phillips nets upset

 

The Phillips Academy girls hockey team pulled off an upset in the first round of the NEPSAC Division 1 tournament, scoring in every period in a 4-2 victory over No. 3 seed Tabor (21-3). Anna Bargman scored twice for the Big Blue (14-5-2), who advance to Saturday's semifinals.

Kelvin Griffin placed first at 120 pounds to pace Brooks to third place in the Graves Kelsey Class B tournament. Brooks had three wrestlers finish third and four others take fourths.
