Scott Campbell scored one goal and assisted on another as Andover overcame a week with much of the team battling the flu to bounce back and beat Waltham 3-1.

Freshman Christian Thompson's first career goal could not have come at a better time as his second period tally proved to be the game-winner in Central Catholic's 3-2 win over Waltham. Lloyd Hayes and Mike Kelleher also scored for the Raiders.

Weezie Gross scored the game-winner with 1:52 remaining as Andover girls hockey won 3-2 over Waltham. 

Meagan Keefe and Joanna Olson assisted the game-winner. 

"Kyle Williams was spectacular," said coach Mike Jankowski after Central's 1-0 win over Waltham. Williams had 23 saves en route to his area best fifth shutout. Mike Kelleher tallied the game's lone goal in the first period.

Matt Swett scored the tying goal with one second left in the game to give Andover the 1-1 tie over Waltham. Goalie Kyle Berthiaume saved 26 shots for Andover.

A quick start in the second half provided Andover's boys lacrosse team ample cushion in a 10-8 non-league victory over Waltham. Junior Joe Kuta powered the offense with four goals and Jake Gostanian was the backbone in the net for the Golden Warriors (11-6).

The Central Catholic hockey express rolled along yesterday, following a 4-0 win over Waltham. Conor MacPhee had two goals for the Raiders (12-0-5) and Tom Evangelista added three assists. Steve Balsamo and Nick Leonard each had a goal and Cam Keller made 17 saves to secure the win.

LAWRENCE — After two periods, Andover had already fired 28 shots on net without a goal to show for it. But Riki Retelle and Paul Russell would not be blanked.

“I was in front of the net like I had been the whole game,” said Russell. “I was trying to screen the goalie and I saw the shot and a loose puck and put it home. It was pretty exciting.”

The Central Catholic boys ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with unbeaten Waltham. Central got scores from John Daniels and Nick Leonard while also getting 17 saves from goalie Cam Keller.

Andy Pena (189) and Chris Bouchard (171) won their matches by pin — the last two matches of the day — to give the Methuen wrestling team a 39-35 win over Waltham. The Rangers also defeated Malden 57-12.
