BROCKTON, Mass. — For the past 17 years, Pinkerton and Brockton have played some classics. The Astros have to drop Brockton due to playoff realignment in New Hampshire.

Methuen freshman Jarmany Colon had his best day of the season, going 3-0 with three first-period pins as Methuen improved to 18-0 with an easy sweep of Taunton, Middleboro, Silver Lake and Brockton.

Unbeaten Methuen flexed its Merrimack Valley Conference muscles by easily sweeping four meets at Marshfield, averaging 59 points in the romps. Nate Green led the way at 106 for the Rangers (18-0) with four first-period pins. Trevor Abdallah, Travis Manick and Darius Franklin also had four pins on the day and Saul Cabrera and Alex Lima had three pins.

Methuen showed its dual meet prowess in a big way Saturday.

The Rangers romped over BC High, Wilmington, Brockton and Brookline to improve to 9-0 and give signs that they could be tough to beat in the Merrimack Valley Conference. The rout of BC High (54-18) was payback against a team that edged Methuen in the Oliver Ames Tournamentas, romping over BC High. 

Andover won a 5-set thriller over Brockton. Alec Dean had two big late kills and Sagar Kaul delivered the winner for a 26-24 win in Game 4. Kenny Doherty notched the last two kills to clinch the 15-11 Game 5 win.

Samnell Vonleh blocked 15 shots and Josie Sanchez recorded 13 blocks but Whittier girls basketball lost 76-58 to powerhouse Brockton.

Andover used 20 points and 8 rebounds from Sam Dowden and dropped Brockton, the 14th-ranked team in the state, 55-48.

The Warriors down 20 to start the fourth, sliced it to a pair and had the ball late, losing it before a real shot to tie. Sam Dowden had 27 with 11 rebounds for the Warriors, while James Costello chipped in a dozen points and freshman Connor Merinder added 11.

Whittier Tech's girls rallied from a 29-15 halftime hole to tie the game in regulation on two Christina Medley free throws with four seconds left and then poured it on in overtime to beat Division 1 Brockton, 67-61. Kendra Brasil scored six of her 10 points in overtime while Catherine Roche led the unbeaten Wildcats (7-0) with 14 points, one more than Medley.
