That was the type of play that the Gloucester hockey team outlined as their style at the beginning of this season.

The Fishermen stayed true to that style of play in their 5-1 win over Saugus last night at the Talbot Rink. Gloucester received four points from junior captain Josh Salah and the team tallied 38 shots on goal en route to victory.

Unfortunately, the Magicians only have one more game to prove it.

Marblehead dropped its third straight game | and missed out on an opportunity to keep alive hope for its first winning season since 1992 | when Saugus scored early and often on its way to a 40-14 victory last night at Piper Field.

You would think two lopsided victories in the regular season would have given Danvers High girls soccer coach Jimmy Hinchion a comfortable feeling about last night's Division 2 North quarterfinal matchup with Saugus.

In what has been a difficult season for the Danvers High football team, the players and coaching staff are continually looking for strong individual and team efforts that will help the squad improve in the long run.

On an afternoon that featured mishaps of every sort | from penalties and turnovers to sloppy play and even two inadvertent whistles | the Swampscott High football team showed why it is in good position to capture the Northeastern Conference Small championship.

Beverly High's work-in-progress football team is 2-0 in the Northeastern Conference small school division after downing upstart Saugus, 19-14, at Hurd Stadium Saturday.

But it's an uncomfortable 2-0 record, which isn't necessarily such a bad thing for the Panthers.

Luke Cosgrove, Shane O'Neill and Ben Hannah each scored for the Fishermen. Nick LoCoco and Alex Trotsky provided the assists while goalkeeper Dom Braga made five saves to earn the shutout. Gloucester (10-2-2) closes out the regular season with three tough games: home to Marblehead, at Swampscott and home to Danvers.

Peabody knocked off Saugus, 4-1. The Tanners expanded a 1-0 halftime lead, pulling away on goals by Erica Digiacomo, Stephanie Muscato and Alyssa Manoogian to improve to 9-0.

Emily Manoogian accounted for the first half goal. Alyssa Manoogian collected a pair of assists and Digiacomo had one.

Dominic Mondi, a junior stopper, came up with what proved to be the winning goal in the first half as the Tanners prevailed over Saugus, 1-0, in a Northeastern Conference matchup.

Peabody has won three straight games.

Danvers got a big 1-0 win over conference rival Saugus, as Taylor Cross put home the lone Falcon goal. Alyssa Sparr played well on defense for Danvers.
