Dillion Ryan tallied two hits and two RBI, and pitched seven innings of 11-strikeout ball as Whittier topped Greater Lowell, 4-0. Ryan allowed just four hits and he didn't give up a run.

Whittier's Kobie Green-Jackson had a huge day for Whittier track in the Wildcats' loss to Greater Lowell. He won the high jump (5-6), the long jump (18-3 1/2), the 100 (11.31) and ran a leg of the winning 4x100 team.

It's been a while

Off to its best start in at least two dozen years, Haverhill's boys tennis team stayed unbeaten with a 5-0 blanking of Greater Lowell. Facing the iron of everyone's roster prepared Ramie Jacobson well at first singles as he took a three-set marathon for the 6-0 Hillies. According to several Hillie sources, this could be Haverhill's best start since an unbeaten, championship run through the Greater Boston League in 1976.

Comeback 'Cats

Down 6-5 going into the seventh inning, the Whittier baseball team combined timely hitting and patience at the plate to score two runs to beat Greater Lowell Tech 7-6. Damian Colman led off in the seventh with a double and advanced to third on a Dillon Ryan single. Greater Lowell then walked three straight batters, scoring both Coleman and Allen to give Whitter the win.

Spectacular season debut

Methuen senior Sarra Bergeron apparently couldn't wait for the season to open.

Bergeron pitched a terrific one-hitter, allowing just a bunt single in the sixth inning as the only baserunner, while striking out a career-high 15 batters in an 11-0 Methuen rout of Greater Lowell.

The young Wildcats have relied on numerous players this season and last night it was freshman Kendra Brasil's turn in Whittier's 67-47 victory over Greater Lowell. Brasil hit two 3-pointers en route to a career-best 12-point night and also added five assists. Fellow frosh Christina Medley had nine points, and Danielle Martin led all scorers with 21.
