The dice came up with a pair of nines for the Timberlane wrestling team at the Division 1 state meet yesterday, and they were big winners.

The Owls, thanks to a shocking 9-for-9 performance in the semifinals earlier in the day, cruised to their ninth straight Division 1 crown in resounding fashion.

Sam Wheeler scored 29 points, passing the 1,000-point mark for her career as Timberlane handed Winnacunnet its first loss of the season, 52-49. Kristin Crotts had nine assists and sophomore Taylor Cefalo had 8 points for the winners.

It was a great day for Lancers at the Haverhill Invitational yesterday.

And it was a particularly good day for the Lawrence Lancers, who captured their second straight Haverhill Invitational title, rolling up 199<1/2> points to edge the runner-up Londonderry Lancers (174<1/2>) for top honors.

Old rivals Peabody and Bishop Fenwick will meet today in the Tanner City Holiday Tournament, but not in the finals as both teams had hoped. Instead, they will battle in the consolation game at 3:30.

Peabody suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of last year's New Hampshire state champion Winnacunnet Regional, 56-42, while Fenwick lost by three points to Melrose.

After getting pounded by Winnacunnet for most of the first half, and falling behind 28-6 in the process, the Owls refused to fold as the special teams and the defense made plays the offense gladly cashed in. But after climbing to within a point during the worst of the night's deluge, a point-after kick was blocked with 4:15 left in the game, allowing the visiting Warriors to survive with a 35-34 victory.

Kyleigh Keating scored twice and assisted on another as Salem remained undefeated (13-0-1) after a 4-1 win over Winnacunnet. Carolyn Malloy and Katie Bettencourt scored the other Blue Devils goal.

Salem and Winnacunnet played to a 0-0 tie. Caitlin Peters, Nicole Ogin and Mackenzie Miller anchored the back line for the Blue Devils.

Kaitlin Hill took a pass from Julie Sickel and scored 15 minutes into the second half in Timberlane's 1-0 win over Winnacunnet. Brittany McFarland-Bateman made seven saves and Annie Hansbury stood out on defense for the Owls.

Pinkerton got two goals from Alex Germaine and two assists from Kenny Kolbeck as the Astros downed Winnacunnet, 4-1. Corey Grant and Sean Kelly were part of a defensive unit that allowed just four shots on net.

Rory Fawcett's goal in the 14th minute propelled Pinkerton past Winnacunnet, 1-0. Astros keeper Katherin Harris stopped all 10 shots she faced to earn the shutout. The Astros improved to 6-5 with the win.
