LAWRENCE — Matthias Latham doesn't mind flying under the radar.

The junior running back has not put up huge numbers for the Central Catholic football team (8-1), but there is no questioning his value as he proved again Friday night in the opening round of the MIAA playoffs.

Haverhill led by 11 midway through the third but Weymouth rallied for the 58-53 win. For the Hillies in their opener, Devon Cunningham had 17 points, Daejon Pendelton-Mills 11 and Dante Cadeus 9.

METHUEN – There are state titles, and then there are state titles that leave no doubt.

Billy Wehring delivered the latter here on his home mat. The Methuen High junior swept through the Division 1 120-pound field.

Central Catholic won two of three meets in a quad-meet, losing only to Milton (36-27). Tom Pagliarulo continued his fine season, going 3-0 at 106.

Through one period, Central Catholic and Weymouth are tried 1-1 in Super 8 play. The Raiders' Nick Leonard tied the game with 2:23 left in the first on a penalty shot goal after being tripped going to the net.

NORTH ANDOVER — The second the clock expired, Central Catholic goalie Kyle Williams was mobbed in celebration by the entire Raiders team.

“Kyle was phenomenal tonight,” said Central co-captain Nick Leonard. “He saved us. I don’t think we could have won without him back there.”

 A late season loss to Andover hurt Central Catholic's Super 8 chances but the Raiders may have thrust themselves back in the mix by upsetting No. 4 Weymouth last night.

Trailing 3-2 after two periods, the Raiders owned the final period en route to a 6-3 win. The loss was just the second of the season for the Wildcats (16-2-2).

Andover zoomed to a whopping 40-3 lead against the home team in the Wymouth Invitational and rolled to a 74-31 win. The Warriors, who had six players score between eight and 12 points, will face Malden in the finals today at 7 p.m.

PEABODY | For a moment no one, including Peabody's Mark D'Addario, knew where the ball was.

Weymouth's short-stick midfielder, Mike Guilfoy, was attached to D'Addario's hip as the Tanners' middie gradually curled toward the visitor's goal. As D'Addario neared the point of firing, Guilfoy lifted his stick up and over the head of D'Addario and slashed down on his opponent's stick.
