Teams around the state are starting to take the Andover wrestling team much more seriously and it showed why again Saturday when it placed second at the Whitman-Hanson Invitational.

Haverhill continued its fine season by rolling to first in the 15-team Whitman-Hanson Tournament as Ben Davoli (106), Steven Wise (132), Jake Nicolosi (138), Sam Prescott (160) and Ryan McCartney (195) all captured individual titles with every match but one a pin.

Rebecca Harty and freshman Brooke Rogers both scored twice as the Haverhill/North Andover/Pentucket girls clipped Whitman-Hanson 6-1.

LYNN — Pinned near the far sideline, Elayna Grillakis took the ball, pulled it back and heel kicked it around her defender, before spinning around and tapping it forward to thread the needle between the ball and the boundary.

The Central Catholic girls earned victories in the shuttle hurdles and pole vault on the way to taking first place at the Class B Relays yesterday at Whitman-Hanson.

The Raiders won with 64 points, edging Mansfield's 58 points.

HAVERHILL — Nobody seemed positive who actually won the 33rd annual John Ottaviani-Haverhill Invitational. The teams listened intently and Central Catholic erupted when it heard, ‘‘In second-place, Methuen ...’’

Lawrence's KB Oshodi has been one of Central Catholic's best and brightest track stars. And he has the Raider football program to thank for it.

"In my freshman year, the football coaches wanted to get us to do track," Oshodi explained. "They said it would be good to try and do a lot of different stuff. In the triple jump, in my first year, I was doing better than the varsity guys. I did well and I just continued to improve."
