Nobody in the state is hotter than Central Catholic, which way back in April stood just 4-3. The Raiders made it 13 straight with a 12-3 win over North Attleboro yesterday. Mike Mercuri smacked four of the Raiders' 14 hits in the victory. Calm-and-collected senior Alex Erwin fired five innings of 1-hit ball for the win.

Central wins a day later

 Sunday, Central thought it lost by a point to North Attleboro, 69-68, in the EMass Division 2 Championships. But Monday the North Attleboro coach noticed a scoring error in his total and informed the meet director, resulting in North Attleboro’s point total dropping to 63 points and third place and awarding the title to the Raiders.

Becht goes distance

Central Catholic lost three straight one-run games, two on walk-offs, but yesterday the Raiders won via the walk-off. North Attleboro broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the seventh. Stephen Jaskelevicus' two-run triple tied it and Pat Silk singled him in for the winner. Evan Becht threw a complete-game three-hitter.

Thanks to an impressive 1-2 punch, Greater Lawrence retained its Division 2 dual-meet state title last night, extending its winning streak to 50 straight meets.

The Reggies used their well-known murders' row in the lower weights to stagger North Attleboro with a powerful jab, zooming to a 23-0 lead after just four weight classes. Then they counterpunched with a crew of unsung heroes to hold off North Attleboro, 36-32, in a showdown of unbeatens.
