Whittier Tech romped to four wins in a five-team meet at Tri-County to improve tio an area-best 20-2. The Wildcats scored at least 51 points in every meet and twice hit 70. Javier Cepeda at 132 was one of five wrestlers who were 4-0 on the day.

Coyne sparks sweep

 

Trailing after the first period and almost pinned, Haverhill 138-pounder Matt Coyne came back to pin Whittier's Nate Buzzell in the third period to highlight the Hillies' 49-24 victory over the Wildcats. Coyne was 3-0 on the day as Haverhill swept a quad-meet with Whittier, Franklin Tech and Greater Lowell.

Methuen's standouts got some assistance yesterday as the Rangers defeated four teams to improve to 5-0.

Returning New England champ Christian Monserrat (138), sophomore star Billy Wehring (113), transfer Brad Andrews (126) freshman Darius Franklin (160) and Mike Golio (220) were all 4-0, but 182-pounder Jon Gonzalez went 3-0 and had a big pin to help clinch a 48-32 victory over Haverhill.
