Andover's "Major' day

 

Due to an unjury, Sean Ballou and Brendan Major were botyh forced to bump up in weight classes and both delivered as Andover captured the Duxbury Duals, defeating improved Lowell 42-36 in the finals, to improve to 13-1. Ballous bumped up from 170 to 195 and Major from 195 to 220 and both had three pins.

Warriors on rise

 

Andover continued its recent upswing by winning three of four meets, its only loss coming to BC High, 41-36. Elias Maita was 4-0 at 160 and Sean Ballou was 4-0 split between 170 and 182. The Warriors are now 12-7.

Andover wins shootout

The Andover girls hockey team won a shootout over powerhouse Duxbury to advance to the finals of the Hingham Showcase. It was 1-1 in regulation (Lilly Shannon scored on Andover's first shot of the game!). The Golden Warriors took the shootout 2-1. Sean D’Urso finished 18 saves and stopped all five shots in the shootout. Andover (9-5-5) will play for the title Thursday against host Hingham at 8 p.m. Duxbury fell to 16-3-2.

Davila on the same Paige

Kelvin Davila and Josh Paige were both undefeated for Andover wrestling in Foxboro. Davila went 3-0 with three pins at 152, and Paige was 2-0 with a pair of pins at 120 as the Warriors won two matches in a quad meet.

Methuen gets tied

 

Methuen is no longer perfect, but it's still unbeaten.

Wrestling without standouts Nate Green and Matt Cabezas, the Rangers (17-0-1) whipped BC High (42-24) and Duxbury (44-23) but had to settle for a 39-39 tie against a solid Foxboro club. Trevor Abdallah had thee pins at 170 while Darius Franklin and Travis Manick were also 3-0 from 182 to 220.

Andover's Wiley hospitalized

Girls hockey player Callie Wiley was hurt in Andover 2-0 playoff loss to Duxbury on Saturday. Early in the evening when he was heading to the hospital, Golden Warrior coach Kevin Drew was extremely concerned. But at 8:30 p.m. he called and said, "She is fine. She had a concussion. Her neck is sore but no breakage."

Rangers tough up top

 

Methuen remained unbeaten (23-0) by rolling to the title at the Duxbury duals, scoring at least 56 points in every meet. The Rangers were particularly strong in the heavier weight, going unbeaten from 160 pounds and up. Saul Cabrera (220) and heavyweight Liam McDonnell were both 4-0 with four pins on the day. Dan O'Connell (26-0) and Travis Manick (23-0) remained unbeaten.

Monserrat, Franklin perfect

 

Methuen continues to wrestle well but lose some of the close meets, falling to New Bedford 43-36 in the finals of the Duxbury Duals yesterday. But nothing has derailed senior Christian Monserrat or freshman Darius Franklin, both of whom had three pins for the Rangers (15-4).

Cinderella season

An improbable run to the Division 2 state semifinals ended as the first-year Tewksbury-Methuen team fell to top-seeded Duxbury 8-0. Taylor Lirakis had a whopping 51 saves and freshman defenseman Kathleen LeFebre starred against the two-time defending state champion Green Dragons.
