Shutout for Wimmer

 

Top-seeded Phillips Academy coasted into the prep Class A field hockey semifinals with a 4-0 victory over Taft. Four different players scored and Windham's Katie Wimmer recorded her 11th shutout of the season. Phillips will not face Greenwich, Conn. in the semifinals Saturday at a site to be determined. Grrenwich defeated Phillips in the finals last year.

Burt fights back

Freshman Aiden Burt of Andover battled for a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles as Phillips Academy rolled over defending New England champ Taft 6-1.

Big Blue win title

For the first time in 20 years, Phillips Academy won the NEITA title by defeating Taft School, 4-2 at Groton School. Mark Adamson clinched the title with his 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory at second singles, and freshman James Heaney climbed back from a 5-0 third-set deficit to win at fifth singles. "We were in some danger when we lost our doubles matches and had to win four of six singles matches but the kids played brilliantly," head coach Greg Wilkin said.

Palleschi paces Phillips

Haverhill's Tom Palleschi combined 17 points with 18 rebounds as Phillips Academy won its second game of the day to finish fifth in the St. Sebastian's Tournament. Ryan Hartung, also of Haverhill, scored 19 points. Earlier, in a game Hartung missed, Phillips beat St. Sebastian's 62-40.

Salem's Kyleigh Keating scored si'x times as the Big Blue cruised past Taft, 12-4.   Greer McBeth and Brooke Van Valkenburg each had three goals in the win for Phillips (6-1).

Phillips star Malcolm Mason-Rodriguez opened the season in brilliant fashion with four wins, including a 23-1 in the long jump and a 45-1 in the triple jump, as the Big Blue swept a tri-meet.

"The player of the day was the team" according to head coach Clyfe Beckwith as Phillips took the nightcap of a tri-match at Northfield Mt. Herman, defeating Taft, 2-0. Katy Scec kept the offense going with 26 digs for the Big Blue (4-0).
